#2010was begun in sludge, fogged, burned, turned ash, pulled solid and buffed glass by the first frost. It was a mess. It made good things.

The workers are on strike. The union leadership goes to negotiate with the bosses.
The steward comes back to speak to the workers. He tells them they’ve managed to persuade the bosses to agree to better working hours. No, say the workers, and send him to negotiate again.
