This card came in the post to the wee rented house of a friend of mine. Feel sad it won’t get to the intended recipient, hope they didn’t move out because of troubles, but also happy about what it says. Stu [partner?] “enjoyed the strike” [probably the public sector strike of autumn 2011] and “up the workers!”. What a nice thing.
Unions - a variation on a joke
The workers are on strike. The union leadership goes to negotiate with the bosses.
The steward comes back to speak to the workers. He tells them they’ve managed to persuade the bosses to agree to better working hours. No, say the workers, and send him to negotiate again.
He comes back to tell the workers they’ve managed to get the better working hours and no pay cut. Not good enough, say the workers, and send him away again.
He comes back a third time and tells the workers he’s thrilled, they’ve got a great deal, the best they could get, and tells them the details.
The workers still say no.
“Oh come on,” says the steward. “Better conditions, better hours, better pay. What more do you want?”
From the back comes a shout: “Revolution!”
“Oh lads,” says the steward. “The bosses will never agree to that.”
- Heard from my dad. Told very affectionately, I might add; he’s a retired steward himself. I’m sure it’s an oldie but couldn’t find a version online. Comment if you know better!
